The 17-year-old German prospect will join an international-heavy lineup for the Red Storm next season.

St. John's current roster features players from France, Spain, Italy, Guinea and Mali. Four international players are expected to return for the 2016-17 season. Freudenberg told Daniels that that played a factor in his recruitment.

"New York is a natural place for these kids to come," St. John's head coach Chris Mullin said in a recent interview. "Not only is a direct flight usually here, but when they get here they can find a community that they're from. I do like that international flavor and all the kids we've had, individually, have been wonderful."

Freudenberg currently plays for Bayern Muenchen's second team.
