David Pellom made the game-winning free throw with 39 seconds remaining and George Washington held off Holy Cross 58-57 on Friday.
Dwayne Smith scored 16 points, Nemanja Mikic added 12 and Pellom had 10 for the Colonials (6-6).
After the Crusaders' Andrew Beinert missed a 3-pointer, Pellom was fouled with 2.6 seconds left, but missed the first free throw and intentionally missed the second. The ball was batted out of bounds with one second remaining, but the Crusaders could not get off a final shot.
The Colonials trailed 37-32 with 14 minutes to go, but took the lead for good 44-40 after a 12-3 run. The Crusaders tied the game at 57 on a 3-pointer by Mike Cavataio with 1:08 remaining.
Jordan Stevens and Josh Jones led Holy Cross (1-11) with 13 points each.
George Washington shot 44.4 percent (12 for 27) from the free-throw line.
