Furman 81, Appalachian St. 61

Amu Saaka scored 31 points to lead Furman over Appalachian State 81-61 on Saturday.
Saaka was 11 of 17 from the field and 6 of 6 from the free-throw line as the Paladins (16-6, 8-3 Southern Conference) won for the first time after having a four-game winning streak snapped at Western Carolina on Jan. 27.
Noah States added 19 points and nine rebounds for Furman, which won the battle of the boards 39-25. The Paladins, who had 13 offensive rebounds, scored 22 second-chance points/
The Paladins, who shot 53.1 percent in the second half (17 of 32), held the Mountaineers (8-13, 4-7) to 38.8 percent shooting for the game (19 of 49).
Darryl Evans chipped in 11 points for Furman.
Appalachian State was led by Omar Carter with 25 points. Andre Williamson and Donald Sims scored 12 points each for the Mountaineers, who lost their fourth straight.
