Florida State beat Virginia 63-56 Saturday, but lost its best player.
Junior forward Chris Singleton, the team's leading scorer, fractured his right foot in the first half and will have surgery.
Florida State spokesman Chuck Walsh told FOXSports.com surgery will likely take place on Monday in hopes Singleton can return to the court by the end of the season.
The 6-foot-9 Singleton, considered one of the elite defensive players in the nation, was averaging 14 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.2 steals and 1.6 blocks per game.
If there's a silver lining for Florida State – which is 18-7 overall and in third place in the ACC with an 8-3 record – it's the remaining schedule.
Florida State has a week off before traveling to ACC cellar dweller Wake Forest,
then they finish with games at Maryland, at home against Miami and North Carolina and road game to end the regular season at N.C. State. The only team in the top half of the league is North Carolina.
Singleton suffered the injury in the first half when he came down on another players' foot.
