The Florida State Seminoles have possibly propelled themselves back into the AP Top 25 with their 83-78 win over 21st ranked Florida on Sunday.
Florida State guard Dwayne Bacon was fantastic, posting 24 points, which led all scorers. Guard Terrance Mann added 16 points and 10 rebounds. The guard duo scored nearly half of the team’s 83 points and did so on 28 field goal attempts.
For the Gators, guard Kasey Hill had 21 points on 10-of-15 shooting. Guard KeVaughn Allen had 16 points, but was unable to post a rebound or assist.
The first half was extremely close, as the largest lead was only five points when Florida was up 20-15. Florida State led at the half, 36-34.
The Noles opened up the second half on fire, hitting 10 of their first 14 field goals. They owned a 56-44 lead with 13 minutes left in regulation.
Though they were down by double digits for the majority of the first portion of the second half, Florida slowly fought back. The game became much closer right before the final media timeout when Florida State led 70-64 with four and a half minutes remaining. Florida hit their next three field goals, cutting the deficit to only three with a little more than a minute left.
UF failed to score on their next two possessions and were forced to foul. The Seminoles led by seven with 15 seconds left, securing the victory.
Florida State is now an impressive 10-1 and 8-0 at home, and they host Manhattan on December 17 and Samford on December 19. This signature win over their rival could launch the Noles into Monday’s top 25.
The Gators, who fell to 7-3 and suffered their second loss this week, hope to rebound against Charlotte on December 17. SEC play begins after they face Arkansas-Little Rock on December 23.
