Chris Long flirted with a triple-double and Elon advanced to the Southern Conference quarterfinals with an 85-74 victory over The Citadel on Friday night.
Long finished with 21 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds for Elon (14-16), which hit 11 3-pointers in the win and placed four players in double figures. They will face College of Charleston in the quarterfinals at 9:30 p.m. Saturday.
Austin Dahn led The Citadel (10-22) with 20 points.
The Phoenix led by as many as 16 in the second half before the Bulldogs closed to within eight, 75-67, on a 3 by Zach Urbanus with 3:24 to play. They got no closer as Elon went 8 for 12 on free throws down the stretch.

Cameron Wells finished with 19 points, six rebounds and five assists for The Citadel.
