Jeremy LaGarde scored on a layup with 5 seconds left to lift East Texas Baptist to a 65-64 victory over Houston Baptist on Sunday.

Josh Chambers had 14 points to lead the Division III Tigers (15-8), who improved to 8-14 all-time against the Huskies.

Andrew Gonzalez led Houston Baptist (3-21) with 26 points and nine rebounds.

Houston Baptist led 64-61 after Gonzalez's layup with 1:51 to play. Deba Egharevba then scored 16 seconds later for East Texas Baptist, cutting the lead to one.

After two missed shots by the Huskies, Shawn Echols was fouled with 12 second remaining, but he missed the front end of a 1-and-1. LaGarde then drove the length of the court for the winning basket, and the Tigers held on when Gonzalez missed a 3-pointer with 1 second remaining.

There were 11 lead changes and six ties, including 35-all at halftime.
