Mike DiNunno scored 21 points and Eastern Kentucky stayed unbeaten with a 63-57 victory over North Carolina Central Tuesday night in nonconference play.
The Colonels (8-0) led 31-22 at halftime, closing the half on a 10-1 run. Behind Jeremy Ingram (18 points) and Ray Willis (16), North Carolina Central (5-5) got within three points in the second half but no closer.
It's Eastern Kentucky's best start since the 1946-47 season, which began 11-0.
DiNunno scored the game's first points on a layup and the last three on free throws in the final 0:30.
Glenn Cosey added 11 points for Eastern Kentucky, which was outrebounded 38-19. The Colonels had decisive edges in two categories. They were 8 for 21 on 3-pointers, DiNunno making 4 of 6 treys. North Carolina Central was 1 for 7 from the arc, Ingram 1 for 6. Eastern Kentucky committed just 10 turnovers to the Eagles' 22.
