Denver beats Western Illinois 59-46

MACOMB, Ill. (AP) Cam Griffin and Nate Engesser scored 14 points apiece and Denver beat Western Illinois 59-46 on Saturday night.

Marcus Byrd added 10 points for the Pioneers (11-16, 5-9 Summit). Brett Olson scored nine points and had two 3-pointers, lifting him into fourth place all-time at Denver with 256 career 3s.

Denver broke a three-game losing streak while the Leathernecks (8-17, 3-11) dropped their sixth straight.

Jalen Chapman and J.C. Fuller each scored 10 points for Western Illinois with Garret Covington grabbing 10 rebounds, all on the defensive glass.

Denver led 24-20 at halftime and would go up by as many as 16 on three occasions in the second half, the final time with 2:26 left in the game.

The Pioneers swept the season series. They beat the Leathernecks 68-54 in their Jan. 14 game in Denver.
