Brian Stafford scored 17 points and Denver's fast start held up in a 63-48 win over Louisiana-Lafayette on Thursday night.

The Pioneers (15-4, 5-1 Sun Belt Conference) led 36-18 at halftime and made 15 of 28 field goal attempts in the first 20 minutes. Denver shot 50 percent (25 of 50) from the field for the game and Stafford was 7 of 11. Louisiana-Monroe shot 36.5 percent (19 of 52) from the field.

Denver is off to its best start in Division I and its 6-2 record on the road matches the number of road wins over the past five seasons combined.

Chris Udofia added 12 points and Royce O'Neale had 10 for the Pioneers, who used a 17-2 run to build their first-half lead.

Charles Winborne scored 18 for the Warhawks (2-18, 1-6), who were held to less than 50 points for the fourth time this season.
