Josh Brinkley scored 18 points and hit the go-ahead jumper as Delaware defeated Hampton 55-53 on Wednesday night, snapping the Pirates' seven-game winning streak.
Darrion Pellum, who led Hampton with 17 points, missed a potential tying jumper at the buzzer.
Tied at 51 with 3:10 left, the Blue Hens (4-2) missed three shots and Hampton (7-2) missed one shot and turned the ball over twice.
Brinkley then scored with 52 seconds left to put Delaware ahead for good despite missed foul shots by both teams.
Alternating at the free-throw line, two players for each team missed their first foul shot and hit their second. Jawan Carter made the clinching free throw for the Blue Hens with 9 seconds left to finish with 15 points and nine rebounds.
Neither team shot well, with Delaware shooting 35.8 percent from the field (19 of 53) and the Pirates 35.4 percent (17 of 48).
