Despite getting a career game from 7-foot-1 sophomore center Alec Brown, Wisconsin-Green Bay couldn't contend with No. 11 Marquette's stifling defense.
Brown scored a career-high 22 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, but the Golden Eagles scored 34 points off Green Bay turnovers to beat the Phoenix 79-61 on Saturday night.
''That's the story of the game,'' Green Bay coach Brian Wardle said. ''The turnovers led to fast-break points, led to easy baskets for them. If we could have just taken care of the basket a little more good things could have happened for us.''
It was the second consecutive blowout loss for Green Bay (4-6), which was beaten by Wisconsin 70-42 on Wednesday night.
Wardle, though, said his team did not give a good effort in the second half of the loss at Wisconsin, but played hard the entire game at Marquette.
''We took a 10-count (against Wisconsin),'' Wardle said, using a boxing reference. ''Tonight we kept fighting.''
Brown made 10 of 21 shots and had 14 rebounds, including six offensive boards, and blocked five shots. The big center had struggled against Wisconsin, making only 4 of 12 shots and grabbing only four rebounds.
''Alec was a different person tonight,'' Wardle said. ''His demeanor before the game, he was relaxed, very comfortable.
''He stayed aggressive, kept shooting the ball and got some good looks,'' he said. ''He's a talented kid. When his mind is that way and he's aggressive, watch out because he's just going to keep getting better.''
Jae Crowder had 21 points and seven rebounds to lead Marquette (9-0). The Golden Eagles won easily despite dressing just eight players due to injuries. Starting center Chris Otule (knee), and reserves Juan Anderson (shoulder) and Jamil Wilson (ankle) all watched in street clothes.
It was another strong game for Crowder, who hit a 3-pointer with less than 7 seconds left to beat Washington 79-77 on Tuesday night. The 6-foot-8 senior made 7 of 12 shots, including 4 of 6 from 3-point range, and had three steals and two blocks.
Sophomores Vander Blue and Davante Gardner each scored 14 points and had seven rebounds for Marquette. Freshman Todd Mayo and leading scorer Darius Johnson-Odom added 10 points apiece.
Terry Johnson had 10 points for Green Bay, the only other Phoenix player to score in double figures.
