Trent Wiedeman scored 17 points to lead College of Charleston to a 75-58 victory over Towson Friday night in the season opener for both teams.

It was the first victory for first-year Cougars' coach Doug Wojcik, who took over the reins of the program after the retirement of Bobby Cremins in March.

Andrew Lawrence, a London native, scored 16 points, and Anthony Thomas and Anthony Stitt scored 12 points each for Charleston, which led 40-14 at the break.

The Cougars shot 56.3 percent for the game, including 44.4 percent on 3-pointers. The winning margin could have been larger, but the Cougars shot only 58.6 percent from the free-throw line.
