Cleveland State recovers to beat Malone 62-46

CLEVELAND (AP) Demonte Flanningan scored 22 points and grabbed 17 rebounds to lead Cleveland State to a 62-46 win over Division II's Malone on Tuesday night.

Flanningan, who had 14 points and 10 rebounds in the first half, made 9 of 12 from the field and had five offensive and 12 defensive rebounds for the game. Vinny Zollo added 12 points, and Andre Yates chipped in 10 for Cleveland State (1-1).

The Vikings trailed 23-22 at halftime but opened the second half with a 21-7 run to lead 43-30 midway of the second period. They outscored Malone 40-23 in the second half. The Vikings made 25 of 58 from the floor while limiting Malone to 17-of-54 shooting. They also won the rebound battle 43-35.

Mitchell Spotleson and Nate Sheppard led Malone with 11 points apiece.
