Devin Booker scored 14 points and Tanner Smith added 11 as Clemson defeated The Citadel 73-50 on Tuesday night for its 14th straight victory over the military college.

Milton Jennings was the third player in double figures for Clemson (2-0), which used a suffocating defense and its height advantage over the outmanned Bulldogs.

Mike Groselle led The Citadel (1-2) with 16 points while Cosmo Morabbi and Bo Holston had eight each.

Clemson led the entire way, jumping out to an 11-3 lead early behind 54 percent shooting. The Tigers held the Bulldogs to just 30 percent shooting for the game.

Midway through the first period, Clemson mounted a 17-6 run to take a 28-14 lead. With another 11-3 run at the end of the half, Clemson went to the locker room with a 39-21 halftime lead.

Clemson started the second half in a zone defense, only to see The Citadel score the first five points of the period, all by sophomore guard DeVonte Wright, including a 3-pointer.

Clemson coach Brad Brownell called a timeout and the Tigers returned to the court in their pressing, man-to-man defense.

The Bulldogs didn't score again until 9:50 left in the game, when P.J Hogan got loose for The Citadel and banked in a basket after two Clemson defenders went flying past him trying to block the shot.

But by that time Clemson led 55-28.
