Jerai Grant came off the bench to score 15 points as Clemson defeated Savannah State 61-40 on Friday night.

Clemson (6-4) held Savannah State to 11 field goals and 22.9 percent shooting from the field.

Grant, usually a starter, began the game on the bench for off-court reasons not specified by Clemson coach Brad Brownell. Grant made 5 of 6 shots from close range.

Clemson's man-to-man defense frustrated Savannah State, which fell behind 26-5 after nearly 15 minutes. Clemson also held Savannah State to five points in the first nine minutes of the second half. Clemson's lead grew to 54-25 on Cory Stanton's 3-point shot with 11:15 left.

Tanner Smith scored 11 points and Andre Young added 10 for Clemson. Led by Milton Jennings' 10 rebounds, Clemson held a 44-32 edge on the boards.

Jovonni Shuler scored 23 points on 7-for-18 shooting for Savannah State (1-12).
