Freshman Trey Zeigler scored 17 points and Central Michigan used an 11-0 run to take the lead for good in a 62-52 victory over Illinois-Chicago on Wednesday night.
Jalin Thomas added 13 points and William McClure had a double-double with 12 points and a game-best 10 rebounds for the Chippewas (2-3), who broke a three-game losing streak.
Robo Kreps led the Flames (3-3) with 14 points. Paul Carter added 10.
Trailing 18-15 with 6:01 left in the first half, Central Michigan reeled off 11 consecutive points for a 26-18 advantage.
The Chippewas led 28-21 at the break and scored the first five points of the second half to lead 33-21. The Flames got no closer than seven the rest of the way.
Central Michigan shot 46.9 percent (23 of 49) to 32.7 percent (18 of 55) for Illinois-Chicago and held a 30-10 advantage in points in the paint.
