BU goalie allows terrible own goal in national championship game

Matt O’Connor is going to have nightmares about this one for a long time.
Boston University had a one-goal lead over Providence College in the Division I men’s hockey championship game at TD Garden Saturday night. The Terriers appeared to be in control of things when Friars defenseman Kyle McKenzie dumped a harmless shot towards the net.
O’Connor calmly caught the puck in his glove, and then a disaster happened.

It doesn’t get much worse than that.
Unless, of course, you consider that Providence’s Brandon Tanev beat the shell-shocked BU goaltender with a wrist shot just over two minutes later to give the Friars a 4-3 lead with less than 10 minutes to play.
That’s the way the game would end, as Providence held on to pull off the shocking upset.
As for O’Connor, well, someone probably should give him a hug.
