Boone police accuse player

Anthony Breeze, a basketball player at Appalachian State University who sat out last season after transferring from Coastal Carolina, has been arrested on two felony drug charges.
Breeze, 22, was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver a Schedule 2 controlled substance, and with sale and delivery of Schedule 2 controlled substance, the Boone Police Department said in a news release. The release did not name the type of drug, and investigators could not be reached for comment yesterday.
Breeze was released after posting a $6,000 bond. He has a Dec. 13 court date.
He is one of 12 suspects arrested Sept. 30 for drug and other related charges as result of an investigation by Boone police with help from the State Bureau of Investigation, the Watauga County Sheriff's Office and the Appalachian State University Police Department.
Breeze, a 6-foot-5, 230-pound junior forward from Greenville, S.C., was with ASU's team last season but could not play because of an NCAA rule that requires players to sit out a full academic year after transferring.
Breeze was the second-leading scorer at Coastal Carolina as a sophomore in 2008-09, averaging 10.4 points, and he also averaged six rebounds that season. He was named to the Big South Conference's all-freshman team in 2007-08.
Mike Flynn, the sports-information director at Appalachian State, said that Athletics Director Charlie Cobb and basketball Coach Jason Capel were aware of the arrest and in the process of gathering facts before making any decisions or statement regarding Breeze.
