Bland helps UC Riverside pull away to beat Lamar 74-69

BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) Jaylen Bland scored 10 of his 25 points in the final six minutes to help UC Riverside pull away and beat Lamar 74-69 on Sunday.

Bland was 8 of 20 from the floor with four 3-pointers. Malik Thames added 13 points for UC Riverside (4-2), which won its first road game.

Josh Nzeakor scored 16 points for Lamar (2-3). Dorian Chatman and Nick Garth chipped in 11 points apiece.

The Highlanders had a 43-29 halftime lead. Chatman scored 11 points and LeMon Gregory added four points as the Cardinals opened the second half on an 18-5 run to tie it at 47 with ten minutes left.

It was tied three more times before Steven Jones made a layup and Bland a 3-pointer to stretch the Highlanders' lead to 58-53 with 5:49 left. Bland added a layup and made 5 of 6 free throws to seal it.
