Jeremy Hence made a running 3-point shot from just past center court to beat the buzzer and lift Army to a 63-60 win over NJIT on Thursday night.

The Black Knights (2-1) led 60-54 with 2:12 left, but the Highlanders tied the game with 28 seconds to go.

Army gained possession under its own basket with 3.7 seconds remaining and the score tied. The Black Knights got the ball to Hence, who took a couple of dribbles to move the ball past the center stripe and launched a 45-footer.

Hence finished with 19 points, while Ella Ellis added 14 for Army.

NJIT (1-2) got 13 points off the bench from freshman Lamar Kearse and Chris Flores scored 12.

Army led by as many as eight points in the first half, then the Highlanders pulled ahead by six.

In a foreshadowing of the final moments, Jason Pancoe made a running 3-pointer for a 33-31 Army halftime lead.
