Derrick Williams scored 31 points to set a career high for the second time in three games and Arizona used a big first-half run to beat Arizona State 80-69 on Saturday.
The sophomore, who scored 30 last week against California, went 8 for 12 from the field, made 15 of 16 free throws and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Wildcats (15-3, 4-1 Pac-10). Trent Lockett scored 17 for the Sun Devils (9-9, 1-4).
Arizona took control with an 18-3 run in the first half, capped by Jordin Mayes' 3-pointer that put the Wildcats up 29-18 with 5:49 left. It was pretty much a standoff after that.
Jesse Perry added 13 for Arizona, 11 in the first half, and Solomon Hill scored 11. Ty Abbott scored 14 and Carrick Felix 11 for Arizona State.
