Stephen Lumpkins scored 19 points and American University snapped a three-game skid with a 73-63 victory over Colgate on Sunday.
Steve Luptak scored a career-high 18 points and Vlad Moldoveanu added 16 points for the Eagles (4-14, 1-2 Patriot League), who opened a 48-40 lead after a 12-4 run midway through the second half.
Luptak and Moldoveanu hit 3-pointers in that stretch, and Lumpkins capped it with a three-point play after muscling in a layup off Moldoveanu's pass.
Yaw Gwayu, who finished with 22 points for Colgate (5-12, 1-2), hit a jumper to close to 48-45, and later sank a foul shot to make it 51-48.
But Moldoveanu answered with a putback, Luptak converted a four-point play after hitting a 3 and getting fouled, and Moldoveanu hit another 3 to stretch it to 60-49.
Kyle Roemer added 19 points for Colgate, which is 3-18 all-time against the Eagles.
