Marquiz Baker scored 27 points to lead Alcorn State to an 83-74 victory over Southern University on Saturday.

Baker hit four 3-pointers and went 9 of 12 from the free-throw line to help the Braves (4-22, 4-12 Southwestern Athletic Conference) snap a five-game losing streak.

Blake Sanford scored 16 points to lead Southern (4-24, 3-13), which has lost nine straight.

Julius Ingram hit two free throws to cut Alcorn State's lead to 70-66 with 2:09 remaining, but Willis Brownlee converted a three-point play and Baker hit a free throw for a 74-66 advantage with 1:15 left.

Brownlee had 15 points and 10 rebounds and Kendrick McDonald added 15 points for the Braves.

Madut Bol scored 15 points, Ingram had 14 and 11 rebounds and Quinton Doggett added 14 points for the Jaguars, who were 14 of 27 from the free-throw line (51.9 percent).
