Don King says he won ruling to stop Mayorga fight
Boxing promoter Don King says he has won a judge's temporary ruling that is keeping former welterweight champion Ricardo Mayorga from fighting in a mixed martial arts match.
King claimed Mayorga breached their contract by trying to fight the MMA match. Mayorga's fight with Din Thomas in Fayetteville, N.C., was canceled Saturday night.
King said the judge asked him to post a bond of $1 million in cash and he was able to come up with the money in a couple of hours. King said he helped bring Mayorga to the U.S. from his native Nicaragua and that he was working on a couple of championship fights for him.
Mayorga has said that even though he wanted to try MMA, he had not retired from boxing. His last fight was a 12th-round knockout loss against Shane Mosley in September 2008.
