As he prepares to face Manny Pacquiao for the third time in his career Nov. 12, Juan Manuel Marquez will be sharing some thoughts with us weekly.
In our third installment, Marquez discusses how his family deals with boxing.
As family a man, how difficult is it to be a fighter when you have children? Do you find it hard when trying to keep your kids away from being violent? Are you worried about getting hurt and your kids having to see you cut or bruised up? What was the specific moment growing up when you decided that you could be one of the best fighters in the world?
Juan Manuel Marquez: As a father I would not like my sons to be boxers, but my brother (Rafael) and I became boxers because my father was a boxer and he loved the sport so much. So if my sons want to be boxers I will support them in any way I can.
My kids rarely go to my fights but they do watch them on TV and they know that there some risks involved in what I do. They know that cuts and bruises are part to the job.
Boxing was always about being the best that we could be. That’s just the way we were raised, to be become the best. From the start of our career, we always strive to be the best boxers possible.
