Technically, neither Roy Hibbert nor David West has moved on to a new team yet. The NBA's moratorium doesn't end until Thursday morning. But in reality, West is a member of the San Antonio Spurs, and Hibbert is on his way to join the Los Angeles Lakers. That leaves Paul George standing alone with the Indiana Pacers.
It's his team now, something that George acknowledged in his goodbye to Hibbert and West posted on Instagram:
And that's the right mindset for George to take. The NBA is a business. West made a business decision to go to San Antonio, and the Pacers made a business decision to trade Hibbert to the Lakers. Neither "left" George; as he said, they helped prepare him for this moment.
Both big men will be missed, by George and by the Pacers. But it's time for a new chapter in Indiana basketball history.
