WWE Survivor Series 2016: How to Book Brock Lesnar vs. Goldberg
With their epic rematch now set for Survivor Series, how should the WWE book the match between “The Conqueror” Brock Lesnar and Goldberg?
Two weeks ago on RAW, Goldberg stepped into a WWE ring for the first time in over 12 years. After receiving a huge pop from the crowd, he stated that he had one more match left in him. He said with his final match, he was challenging Brock Lesnar to a battle, seemingly for Survivor Series.
The two had met previously in 2004, at WrestleMania XX at Madison Square Garden in New York. At the time this was viewed as a dream match. With Lesnar on Smackdown and Goldberg on RAW, it would be the first time they had clashed.
However, fans were given one of the worst matches in WrestleMania history. It revealed during the week that Goldberg was leaving WWE due to his unhappiness during his one-year run in the company, and Lesnar was leaving to pursue a career in the NFL.
With neither competitor caring about the match, it ended up being a complete dud, and the two were ferociously booed by the loud New York crowed. They would both depart the company with Lesnar leaving for 8 years and Goldberg for 12.
With the two back in WWE, the fans now have the chance to see the match they should’ve 12 years ago. However as we saw on Monday night, the way the WWE wants to go, the crowd won’t allow.
Lesnar returned to RAW last week in his hometown of Minneapolis, MN and got the expected positive reaction. WWE however, wanted The Beast Incarnate to get booed with having Heyman cut a heel promo. The crowd would have none it as they cheered Lesnar, and chanted “Goldberg sucks”. WWE then cut the promo early. Despite them wanting Lesnar to be the heel in the match, the fans will simply not have it. So, the company should book this match as just the two stars being fan favorites.
If WWE tries to book Lesnar as a heel, it will completely backfire. Fans will then most likely cheer him and boo Goldberg. In a smart crowd like Toronto, where the match will be held, is the crowd that would likely do this. With Lesnar now residing in Canada, the fans will most likely back him over the former WCW star.
Going into the match, neither should be the heel or the face it should simply be booked as the rematch 12 years in the making. Now, the question arrises who should leave Toronto with a victory, Lesnar or Goldberg? The short answer is the former.
The former WWE World Heavyweight Champion has been on an absolute tear since being back in WWE. He ended The Undertaker’s undefeated streak at WrestleMania, and has defeated top stars like John Cena, CM Punk, Triple H and Randy Orton.

With the 1 in 21-1 rolling, he needs to get the win more than Goldberg does. The man who went undefeated in WCW for two years, and has not wrestled a match in years and for him to come in and beat a monster like Lesnar isn’t believable.
The match should be used for Goldberg to give his family a chance to see him compete in the ring for the first time, but that’s it. If he wins it would hurt any credibility that Brock has built
since beating the streak.
Lesnar lost the first bought at WrestleMania, this time he should get the W and continue his dominance in WWE. You can still make Goldberg look strong in the match having him kick out of a F-5, and surviving a trip to Suplex City but when the match ends his shoulders need to be the ones pinned to the mat.
This match should be booked as the redemption match for Brock. Defeating the only man he was never able to conquer, Goldberg. Doing this, Brock remains to be White-Hot going into WrestleMania season, and Goldberg gets to have his family watch him compete and help the WWE put over their Monster.
Will this match be better than their first match 12 years ago? Hopefully, but until then we will just have to sit and wait until these two monsters of the ring clash in the ring in Toronto, Canada at the Survivor Series
