Why is the WWE Network Down on Friday, October 21?
Why is the WWE Network not functioning properly for customers on Friday, October 21?
The WWE Network has been WWE’s over-the-top streaming service since February 2014. It has provided every company pay-per-view for just $9.99 per month, including having every past show available for fans to watch. This includes original content like WWE NXT, Swerved, and Camp WWE.
Sometimes, these services go down, which became the case on Friday afternoon for the WWE Network. There’s an ongoing Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack, that’s hitting most of the East Coast’s major companies online. The WWE Network is currently down due to this ongoing situation. Spotify and Twitter are among the notable websites down due to the DDoS.
Other sites were down for a few hours but restored itself and is up and running. There’s no word on when the WWE Network will be back to fully functioning,
A DDoS attack is done to overwhelm a website with a so much traffic that it causes their respective network to go down. This one has been big enough to affect thousands on the East Coast, though.
The WWE Network doesn’t have any major programming on Fridays, so it won’t be affected much by this. Given how everyone else has been up and running within a few hours, they should eventually be fine. If this came the day of the October 30 Hell in a Cell PPV, though, then it would be an issue. Even if it was before Tuesday’s WWE Talking Smack, SmackDown’s post-show, it would be an issue.
We’ll have to see when the WWE Network goes back online. This DDoS attack is affecting everyone, so it may take some time. Before long, though, you should be able to continue watching the company’s shows.
