Report: Mickie James Signs New WWE Contract

Mickie James will reportedly be joining WWE on a full-time basis, but for which brand?

Mickie James made her WWE return after being away for six years at the NXT TakeOver: Toronto pay-per-view. She would challenge for the NXT Women’s Championship but lose to Asuka via submission. Post-match interviews would see James get asked about her WWE future, which she had been unsure of at the time.

Earlier this week, we noted how WWE offered James a full-time main roster contract. It hadn’t been known if she would accept the offer, and the brand she would join didn’t get specified either.

Well, it looks like the former WWE Women’s Champion is returning to the company. PW Insider reports that she has signed a multi-year deal to join the main roster (no mention of it being full-time, but you’d expect it would be). This will also come on the SmackDown brand in January 2017.

Mickie will be joining an already strong group of women on Tuesday nights. This includes new women’s champion Alexa Bliss, Becky Lynch, Nikki Bella, Natalya, Naomi, and Carmella. It’s an interesting group of names that had once been perceived to be weaker than Raw’s women’s division, which has come under fire for its heavy showcasing of Charlotte and Sasha Banks.

Adding James will only help as it’s another veteran joining to help the younger talents like Bliss, Lynch, and Carmella. This would go for any future call-ups as well. She’ll bring her impressive resume of five title reigns in WWE and three from TNA (which likely won’t be acknowledged) to Tuesday nights.

So, it looks like Mickie James is back after all these years on a potentially full-time basis. Her presence can only help SmackDown’s women’s division thrive in the coming months as she goes through a second tour with WWE. Do you think this is the right move to make?
