Report: Competency issues cloud Jimmy Snuka murder case

Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka is facing third-degree murder charges in Pennsylvania. However, it remains to be seen if the former pro wrestling superstar is competent enough to face a trial.

The charges stem from the May 1983 death of Snuka's then-girlfriend Nancy Argento. On Friday, Snuka's attorney, Robert J. Kirwan II, told Lehigh County Judge Kelly L. Banach the wrestler is in no mental shape to face the charges.

Snuka, 72, is recovering from stomach cancer surgery. Judge Banach delayed the March 22 trial until the competency issue is resolved. The Call reported mental health experts will examine Snuka and will present their findings March 18.

Snuka is a longtime favorite from the WWF/WWE days. The Argento case was dormant for many years until the Morning Call did an investigation into it that led to charges being brought against the wrestler.

If Snuka is declared incompetent, his trial could be postponed indefinitely.
