WWE Clash of Champions takes place Sunday, September 25 from the Bankers Life Field House in Indianapolis, Indiana.  The main event features Seth Rollins challenging Kevin Owens for the WWE Universal Championship.

Owens won the Universal Championship on the August 29th edition of Raw.  However, it was not a clean win, as Triple H virtually handed Owens the belt after he pedigreed Rollins.  While The Game has not been on Raw since, KO has continued to remain champion. However, Triple H’s turn on Rollins has changed things greatly.

After Rollins turned on The Shield, he became Triple H’s No. 1 protege and the chosen one. This made it shocking when Triple H turned on Rollins, costing him the Universal Championship.

At Clash of Champions, The Architect has the opportunity to enact revenge. The question is will he be able to defeat Owens and gain the WWE Universal Championship? Also, will Triple H once again make an appearance during the match? It should make Sunday night a great event with a must-see main event.

Here are five reasons why Seth Rollins should defeat Kevin Owens at Clash of Champions on Sunday night.

5. Raw’s Top Star

The WWE Universal Championship so far has gone to two “New Era” superstars.  Finn Balor was the first Universal Champion.  He was well over as a face and definitely part of the New Era of stars, but got injured in the match against Seth Rollins when he won the championship.

Then, eight days later, Kevin Owens won the title with an assist from Triple H on Raw.  While Kevin Owens is an up and coming star he is not Raw’s Top Star or attraction.  Seth Rollins however is.  Going into SummerSlam Rollins was the company’s top heel.  After Triple H’s actions to crown Owens, Rollins has slowly been making his transition to a face.  Once that is complete he will likely be the top face on Raw.

The Universal Championship needs to have Raw’s top star as champion.  Seth is Raw’s top draw other than Brock Lesnar who is a part-time performer.  Seth will bring legitimacy to the championship. Kevin Owens one day will be a top draw on Raw.  However, that time is not now. Right now that star is Seth Rollins.

4. Triple H

Seth Rollins needs to win his match against Kevin Owens at Clash of Champions because of Triple H’s involvement that crowned Kevin Owens as champion.  Triple H inexplicably turned on his former protege helping Owens become the Universal Champion.

Despite that happening weeks ago on Raw there still has been no explanation from Triple H on why he attacked Rollins.  Seth Rollins also has not had a chance to payback Triple H for costing him the championship.

At WWE Clash of Champions he will finally have that chance.  Maybe not directly as Triple H may not make an appearance.  However, by Seth Rollins defeating Kevin Owens for the Universal Championship it would be a giant first step in what needs to be a major story line of Seth Rollins vs. Triple H.

In order for that eventual story to happen Rollins must win at Clash of Champions.  Should Kevin Owens win cleanly at Clash of Champions then Triple H’s involvement made no sense.  Seth Rollins must win at Clash of Champions for continuity of the story.  But does that mean he must win the Universal Championship?

3. Wins the Match but Not the Championship

Seth Rollins must win the match at WWE Clash of Champions, however, does that mean he must win the Universal Championship?  A huge negative of Kevin Owens losing the championship at Clash of Champions is that it would be another quick title change.  For the Universal Championship, that would especially be bad.

Raw’s top title has already had two champions in its very short history.  While the first championship run was cut short by injury, having another title change in less than a month would not necessarily help establish it equal to the WWE World Championship.

This creates two competing storylines.  However, Rollins needs to win his match against Owens, and the Universal Championship needs stability.  Both goals can be achieved by having Seth Rollins win by disqualification.

In this scenario, there are multiple ways to achieve this.  However, the best way would be for once again Triple H interfering in the match.  While DQ finishes at pay-per-view events are not usually desired, in this case, it makes the most sense.  It would not weaken either Rollins or Owens while building up the importance of the Universal Championship.  Also, it would solidify The Game choosing Owens over Rollins, with the question as to why still being left unanswered as they build towards Hell in a Cell.

However, does this scenario really help Rollins’ character?

2. Time to Reclaim

When Seth Rollins returned from injury, he has been working under the theme of “Redesign, Rebuild, and Reclaim”.  He has absolutely redesigned himself, with his character in between being the top heel as he moves towards being the No. 1 face.

While transitioning to this in between character, Rollins has quickly rebuilt himself to be a legitimate main event star.  Through this rebuild, he has come close multiple times to once again become both the WWE World Champion and Universal Champion.  He seemed stronger than before and absolutely more determined, making the rebuild quick and effective.  Now, it is time to reclaim.

In order for Rollins’ reclaim portion of his brand to come into fruition, he must finally win back the top championship.  This can be finally be realized at Clash of Champions with a win.  Should he defeat Kevin Owens cleanly, even if Triple H once again tries to interfer,e he will finally reclaim his title ambitions while rebranding himself as a face.

1. WWE Needs a Face Champion

WWE currently has a huge problem in that nearly all of their champions are heels.  On Raw, Kevin Owens is the heel Universal Champion, Rusev is the US Champion, and Charlotte is the Women’s Champion.  There is a desperate need for a babyface to finally become champion, which can be Seth Rollins as he completes his turn.

While it is always exciting for fans to enjoy the chase of their hero taking on the evil champion, it does get tiring seeing them always come up short.  That was one of the main problems when Hulk Hogan was champion in WCW as part of the nWo.  He always found a way to hold on to it in addition to not defending it every month.

While WWE is pretty good most of the time enforicing its 30 day defense rule, it has lately gotten in a habit of not having or keeping a face as a top champion.  The exception being Dean Ambrose but that was short-lived.

Seth Rollins is primed to become the top face that is able to hold on to a long championship run.  At Clash of Champions, he needs to defeat Kevin Owens.  While it will be yet another quick title change, long-term, it will allow the belt to be built up and for Rollins to reclaim his spot in the WWE.  Only this time in a different role as fan favorite.
