When Rebecca Quin, aka Becky Lynch, said “I wasn’t born to be champion, I fought to be champion” on SmackDown, she wasn’t lying. This chick has been on the path of champions since she was just a wee little teenager. The Irish Lass Kicker started training for professional wrestler at only 15 years old and has taken the world by storm.
At 29 years old, the Irish Lass Kicker has wrestled on the independent circuit in Europe, Japan, and Germany. She has broken both of her ankles, had two stingers in her neck, and one head injury. In fact, Becky’s head injury was so severe that she almost had to retire in 2006 due to possible damage to her eighth cranial nerve. Becky’s injury caused her to take a step back from wrestling for 7 years, not returning to compete until 2013.
Upon her return, Becky Lynch quickly made her way to the WWE developmental department. She made her NXT debut in November of 2014 and was on the WWE main roster early the following year. Lynch has since graced the WWE Universe with her charismatic, goofy personality. She has left you in awe at times with finishing moves such as the Four-Leg Clover and Dis-Arm-Her.
Lynch has held championships in Queens of Chaos, Super Girls Wrestling, and now she is the first ever SmackDown Woman’s Champion! She is also an intelligent, pun-loving, and interesting individual. Here are 5 Interesting Facts About the “Irish Lass Kicker”!
5. “Irish Lass Kicker” Connections
It’s no secret that Becky Lynch worked her way up to WWE Superstar status the hard way. She was about to end up in a career of kickboxing, but her brother learned about a wrestling school opening up nearby. The school was opened by Paul Tracy and Fergal Devitt, aka Finn Balor! She was 15 at the time she began training with Balor. “I was absolutely, diabolically bad, but I loved it more than anything,Not-So Secret” said Lynch according to WWE.
The “Irish Lass Kicker’s” connections don’t end there. Lynch spent time in various independent wrestling promotions around the world building up her talent under the ring name Becky Knox. In 2006 she appeared in a match with Paige’s mom in France, beating Sweet Saraya for the vacated Queens of Chaos Championship.
Becky Lynch returned to wrestling in 2011, but not to compete. Instead, appearing as The Knight Dynasty’s manger. The stable was made up off Sweet Saraya and Britani Knight, although you might recognize the young Britani Knight as Paige. Clearly, Team P.C.B. was not Becky’s first encounter or stable with Paige.

4. Not-So-Secret Relationship
Becky Lynch has managed to keep some of her life a secret. Becky, who is usually very candid in interview’s, has never given up any goods about a possible relationship. She has, spoken however, about how difficult dating can be with a working schedule as vigorous as WWE’s can be. “It is not easy because of the constant travel, being on the road five days a week is very tough. Sometimes you’re lucky enough to find someone who gets it.” Lynch told XO Benzo.
While the “Irish Lass Kicker” might have managed to keep most of her dating life a secret, there have been some rumors. PW Pix picked up on a string of Instagram photo’s earlier this year of Becky with UFC fighter Luke “Cool Hand” Sanders. In both pic’s the to appear to be on a date!
Becky Lynch has remained secretive about their relationship, but Sanders Twitter feed has couple written all over it. Sanders has not only added Instagram links of some pics with Becky, but he also seems to have retweeted several fan tweets that mention the possibility of their relationship status.
It’s pretty obvious that he is either chasing the lass, or has already caught her… Thoughts anyone?

3. 7 Year Hiatus
Have you been a fan of Becky Knox since before she became the “Irish Lass Kicker”? Then you might have wondered what she was up to during her 7 year hiatus from wrestling. If you weren’t then you will still find it rather interesting. Lynch has described her 7 year break as a “time of discovery” and that’s just a little insight into how busy she really was.
Becky went back to college and got her bachelor degree in acting. She tried out personal training, was a flight attendant, and picked up several other skills. Lynch tried scuba diving, martial arts, sword fighting, stunt driving, bodybuilding, and surfing. Lynch even worked as a stuntwoman on the T.V. show Viking’s. In fact, Lynch can actually say that there isn’t too much that she has not tried.
Lynch realized that nothing could take the place of wrestling. “[Nothing] captured my heart the way wrestling did,” she told WWE. At some point Becky made her way to Orlando. She had her mind-set getting signed to NXT, but she also had a backup plan of going to TNA. Becky talked about this and more as a guest on Talk is Jericho, says Wrestling Inc.

2. Clown & Pearl Jam Fanatic
Becky Lynch is well-known for her love of pun’s. With a look at interviews, both new and old, you can see why. She absolutely loves clown’s. “What I loved about wrestling was just being foolish, so I studied clown. I studied clown. I studied the art of clown. I actually did my thesis on clown.” Lynch added, “I feel like you just become very vulnerable and it’s very honest.” Lynch once said on Talk is Jericho, according to Wrestling Inc.
The “Irish Lass Kicker” actually went to clown college, while she was finishing her degree. Lynch’s acting and clown skills have definitely given her an advantage when it comes to charisma and pure goofiness. No pun intended!
Another interesting fact about Becky is her passion for good music. It helps to remind her of the good and bad times in her life that got her where she is today. She talked about attending a Pearl Jam concert in a recent interview with SI.
“All these songs made me think, Oh my God, this is the music that got me through all these hard times and motivated me to get where I am, and here I am at Fenway Park watching Pearl Jam.” Becky said. Almost the entire interview is a dedication to her love for the band.
Lynch talked about some the songs that she heard at the concert and the memory that song brought her back to. If you ever wanted to know Becky Lynch as a person, this is a must read interview.
It also looks as though she might not have attended the concert alone!
1. The Origin of the Goggles
Becky Lynch has discussed her look a couple of times in interviews, but has never officially linked the look to anything specific. She has claimed that it is a “steam punk” look. That she prefers vintage over newer styles of clothes. Becky has even taken responsibility for pushing the goggles to creative. “I knew they were going to get the goggles because I brought the goggles to them and I was like, ‘ah, I’m going to start wearing these.” She said, according to the Talk is Jericho interview, covered by Wrestling Inc.
What the “Irish Lass Kicker” has not mentioned is the uncanny resemblance that her persona bears to the Chandra Nalaar character from Magic the Gathering. If anyone has ever felt a sense of familiarity when it comes to Lynch, but have not figured out why. Then, this is your answer! It’s crazy how much she resembles the character. Not just in what she wears, or the goggles, but her actual look.
This has never officially been resolved, but whoever put the final connection together was a genius. She seems so familiar at first glance that you feel connected, although you can’t explain why. Anyhow, there is no way that neither her nor creative, did not make that final push on the Chandra Nalaar character to draw you in.
