Utah women's basketball coach Elaine Elliott will take a yearlong leave of absence while she considers retiring from coaching.

Elliott made the announcement Wednesday. She has coached at Utah for 31 years - the last 27 as head coach.

Anthony Levrets will serve as interim coach. Levrets just finished his third year as an assistant.

Elliott is the winningest coach in Mountain West Conference history. Her record is 582-234 and Utah has made 15 NCAA Tournament appearances under her. The team finished 23-12 this season.

Elliott says in a statement she told athletic director Chris Hill she wanted to retire but took the leave of absence offer because it gives her the opportunity to think it over.
