No. 23 Syracuse women score last 11 to beat Va Tech 59-51

BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) Brianna Butler and Alexis Peterson combined for 30 points in the second half and No. 23 Syracuse scored the last 11 points of the game to rally past Virginia Tech 59-51 on Sunday.

The Orange (18-8, 8-5 ACC) had to recover from their worst half of the season, missing all 17 of their 3-point attempts and shooting 14.3 percent (5 for 35) to trail 24-19 at halftime.

Two free throws and a 3-pointer by Alexis Peterson put Syracuse up 28-27 but the Hokies (10-16, 1-12) recovered and had a 50-43 lead after two Sidney Cook free throws with 4:09 to go. But after Taijah Campbell's free throw with 3:05 left put Tech up 51-48, they didn't score again.

Butler finished with 19 points, Peterson 17 and Briana Day had 12 with 14 rebounds and Syracuse ended up at 23.7 percent, its lowest of the season, and 4 of 26 behind the arc.

Vanessa Panousis had 18 for Tech, which missed its last six shots and had two turnovers.
