Anna Freeman added 12 points and Canesha Edwards had 11 points and 13 rebounds for the Mountaineers, who finished 23 for 66 from the field.

After Ramirez's left-wing 3-pointer cut Maryland's lead to 34-32 with 5:10 remaining in the first half, the Mountaineers didn't score again from the floor the rest of the half.

Its 5-for-9 effort from beyond the arc, all the conversions coming from the left side, offset Appalachian State's 12-for-31 start from the floor and limited the Terrapins to a 39-38 lead at halftime.

Thomas scored 13 first-half points, including 11 straight midway through the opening 20 minutes, but the Mountaineers employed a spread zone that Maryland had troublepenetrating.

Tchatchouang's strong inside move opened the second-half scoring, and she added two baskets on layups and a jump-hook in the paint as the Terrapins took control.
