Alyssa Thomas scored 16 points and Lynetta Kizer added 12 to help No. 21 Maryland rout American 78-52 on Sunday for Brenda Frese's 200th victory as the Terrapins coach.

Anjale Barrett scored 11 points for Maryland (3-1), which improved to 15-1 all-time against the Eagles (2-2). Frese, in her ninth season, reached the 200-win milestone faster than any of her predecessors.

Lisa Strack and Alexis Dobbs led American with 13 points apiece. The Eagles shot a season-worst 29 percent (17 for 58) from the floor and made only six of 26 3-point attempts.

Maryland, which won its second consecutive game, took advantage of the Eagles' 1 for 11 start from the field and sprinted to a 23-3 lead with 11:51 left in the first half.

Thomas had eight points in the game-opening run as the Terrapins employed a smothering defense and a strong transition game.

American committed 13 first-half turnovers, leading to 15 Maryland points, and trailed 44-30 at halftime.

The Terrapins shot a season-high 53 percent (32 for 60) from the field and led by as many as 39 on Kizer's layup with 11:11 remaining.
