No. 20 Oregon State powers past Portland 87-65

CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) Ruth Hamblin scored 20 points and Ali Gibson added 16 as No. 20 Oregon State, ranked for the first time since 1996 and the first-time ever in the preseason poll, rolled past Portland 87-65 on Friday night.

The Beavers shot 68 percent in rolling to a 52-32 lead at the half. The lead reached 33 with 13:19 to play.

Deven Hunter and Jamie Weisner both had 11 points and Gabriella Hanson came off the bench to add 10.

Cassandra Brown led the Pilots with 18 points and Kari Luttinen added 12 and Sara Zaragoza 10.

The Beavers made 9 of 20 3-pointers and had a 50-24 advantage on points in the paint as Hamblin blocked five shots.

OSU scored the first nine points and led 36-12 on a jumper by Marie Gulich midway through the half.
