No. 16 Stanford women close strong to beat Gonzaga 65-47

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) Erica McCall scored 23 points and grabbed 13 rebounds and No. 16 Stanford closed the game with a 19-1 run to defeat Gonzaga 65-48 on Sunday.

A 3-pointer by Lili Thompson, who scored 21 points, put the Cardinal (2-0) up 46-38 with 8:50 to play but the Bulldogs (1-1) responded with 9 straight points, taking a 47-46 lead on Kiara Kudron's free throw at the 6:23 mark.

McCall answered with a layup for the 11th lead change and then the Cardinal hit three straight 3s, Thompson sandwiching a pair around one from Karlie Samuelson for a 57-47 lead.

Gonzaga missed its last 12 shots to finish at 25 percent for the half and 31 percent for the game. The Bulldogs were 3 of 21 from behind the arc and 9 of 20 from the foul line.

Jill Barta led Gonzaga with 11 points and Ellie Tinkle had 10.
