No. 13 UCLA women hold off Washington State 79-71 (Jan 28, 2018)
PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) Jordin Canada tossed in 18 points, Monique Billings and Lajahna Drummer both notched double-doubles and No. 13 UCLA held off Washington State 79-71 on Sunday to complete a sweep of the Washington schools.
Billings finished with 15 points and 15 rebounds, while Drummer contributed 10 points and 14 boards for the Bruins (17-4, 8-2 Pac-12 Conference). The duo's efforts helped UCLA outrebound the Cougars (9-13, 2-8) 51-29. The Bruins also sank 20 of 30 free throws, while WSU hit 7 of 11.
Borislava Hristova topped the Cougars with 25 points, while Chanelle Molina scored 11. Washington State was led by assistant coach Mike Daugherty, who is filling in for his wife June Daugherty - out on a medical leave of absence.
The Cougars used an 11-0 run over the final 5:33 of the first quarter to take a 20-13 lead. The Bruins righted the ship in the second quarter, getting 10 points from Kennedy Burke to take a 38-34 lead at halftime. Hristova's jumper 53 seconds into the third quarter pulled WSU even at 38, but Canada's layup midway through the period stretched the lead to 10 and the Bruins stayed in front from there.
UCLA leads the all-time series 54-8, including wins in 31 of the last 33 games. WSU earned the biggest upset in program history when it beat No. 9 UCLA 82-73 last season at home behind 33 points from Molina.
