No. 12 North Carolina eases past Clemson 78-56

CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) Jessica Washington scored a career-high 20 points to help No. 12 North Carolina beat Clemson 78-56 on Sunday.

The Tar Heels have won nine straight road games against Clemson dating back to 1996-97.

Stephanie Mavunga had 15 points for North Carolina (16-3, 3-2 ACC), Jamie Cherry added 12 and Allisha Gray 10. Washington made 7 of 11 shots, including 4 of 7 3-pointers, as the Tar Heels connected on 52.8 percent of their field goals.

Washington made back-to-back 3-pointers to cap a 24-6 spurt to open the game. She had 11 points at the break and Gray added 10 as North Carolina led 45-24.

Nikki Dixon made 13 of 14 free throws and finished with 17 points for Clemson (9-10, 1-5). Tiffany Lewis added 13 points as the Tigers lost their fifth consecutive game.

Dixon became Clemson's 10th all-time leading scorer after making the most free throws by an ACC player this season.
