No. 11 Louisville 85, Florida St. 76

Shoni Schimmel scored 25 points and Monique Reid added 23 to lead No. 11 Louisville to an 85-76 victory Friday night over Florida State.

Schimmel, who hit four of nine 3-point shots, nailed one from long range with 4:23 left that snapped a tie at 66 and the Cardinals (5-1) didn't look back. The sophomore guard from Mission, Ore., also had seven assists and four steals.

Cierra Bravard scored a career-high 27 points for Florida State, which began the season ranked 14th nationally but has lost three of its last four going into a Sunday visit from Nebraska. Bravard was perfect on 11 free throws. Natasha Howard added 13 points and a game-high seven rebounds for the Seminoles, who shot 48.2 percent but were hurt by 24 turnovers.

Schimmel exploded for 10 points during a span of 2 minutes and 19 seconds that sparked a 14-2 run midway through the game and gave Louisville its biggest lead of the game at 53-41 with 18:04 left.

But Florida State (3-3) scratched back and tied the game briefly at 66 on Howard's 3-point shot from the corner before Schimmel answered with her go-ahead shot.

Reid's 9-of-12 performance from the floor helped Louisville to a 48.4 shooting percentage. She had a dozen points at halftime without missing a shot.

Bria Smith added 11 points for Louisville.

Louisville led by as many as 11 points on three occasions in the first half, but Florida State caught up at 39 on Olivia Bresnahan's fast-break layup off Lenor Rodriguez's seventh assist in the opening half. Rodriguez finished with a career-best eight assists.

Sara Hammond countered with a layup on the other end to snap the tie and Schimmel scored five points in the final 23 seconds to give the visiting Cardinals their 46-39 lead at the break.

Louisville jumped off to a 7-0 lead and quickly built a 21-10 advantage. They remained ahead by 11 points as late as 29-18 midway through the opening half.
