Michigan State women beat Michigan 69-49 in Big Ten tourney
HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. (AP) Aerial Powers had 16 points and 15 rebounds on Thursday and No. 9 seed Michigan State women beat eighth-seeded Michigan 69-49 in the second round of the Big Ten tournament.
Powers recorded her 24th double-double of the season. The Spartans (16-14) advance to face top-seeded and No. 4-ranked Maryland on Friday.
Lexi Gussert added 16 points, Tori Jankoska scored 15 and Becca Mills 11.
Michigan State opened the game with a 22-4 run and led 46-22 at halftime. The Wolverines (16-14) cut their deficit to 17 with a 7-0 run to open the second half, but the Spartans answered with nine straight points and led by no less than 18 from there.
Katelynn Flaherty had 14 points and Shannon Smith had 10 points and 10 rebounds for Michigan.
The Wolverines had 18 offensive rebounds but shot 19 of 70 (27.1 percent).
