Coaches again pick UConn to win American Athletic Conference
PHILADELPHIA (AP) American Athletic Conference coaches have again picked UConn as the favorite to win the league title.
The four-time defending national champions received 10 of 11 first-place votes in the preseason poll, which was announced Monday at the conference's annual media day.
UConn lost three All-Americans from last year's team, including national player of the year Breanna Stewart.
But the Huskies return seven players from that team, which finished 38-0.
Temple is picked to finish second and South Florida is projected third in the conference.
UConn junior Kia Nurse, who was a member of the Canadian Olympic team, is the preseason choice for American player of the year.
The preseason conference first team also includes her teammate Katie Lou Samuelson, USF's Kitija Laska, Tulane's Kolby Morgan and Temple's Alliya Butts and Feyonda Fitzgerald.
