Stewart ties career high with 29 points, Seattle cruises

SEATTLE (AP) Breanna Stewart made five 3-pointers and tied a career high with 29 points and the Seattle Storm used a big first half to beat the Connecticut Sun 98-81 on Friday night.

Stewart was 9 of 15 from the field, 6 of 6 at the line, and had nine rebounds, six assists, three steals and three blocks. The former UConn star was selected No. 1 overall this year in the WNBA draft.

Seattle opened with a 10-0 run - with two 3-pointers by Stewart - and never trailed.

The Storm had their highest scoring half of the season with 56 first-half points after making 21 of 30 shots (70 percent). Stewart, Sue Bird and Jewell Loyd combined for 41 points. Stewart was 5 of 5 from 3-point range as Seattle made 8 of 12.

Bird and Loyd finished with 19 points apiece for Seattle (5-9), which is No. 10 in the AP power poll. The Storm won for just the second time in their last seven games.

Alex Bentley scored 13 points and Shekinna Stricklen added 12 for 11th-ranked Connecticut (3-11).
