UNCASVILLE, Conn. (AP) Tina Charles tied a career-high with 32 points, Swin Cash reached 5,000 career points and the New York Liberty beat the Connecticut Sun 80-72 on Thursday night.

Cash made a hook shot in the lane with 5:22 left in the first quarter to become the 14th player in WNBA history to reach 5,000. She joined Tamika Catchings as the only two WNBA players to have 5,000 points, 2,000 rebounds and 1,000 assists.

Cash finished with seven points for New York (7-4), which is ranked No. 4 in the AP power poll.

Connecticut tied it at 70-all on Alex Bentley's transition 3-pointer with 2:34 left but the Sun did not score again until the 17-second mark. Sugar Rodgers highlighted New York's 6-0 run during that stretch with a long jumper and the Liberty made 4 of 4 free throws to ice it.
