Ultimate Fighter Latin America casting for 2014 debut
The next international edition of The Ultimate Fighter is set as Latin American competitors will be showcased on the series with filming beginning later this year in Las Vegas.
This will serve as the seventh installment of the international version of The Ultimate Fighter with Latin America getting a shot at the reality show for the first time.
Fighters from ages 21-34 with at least three professional fights who speak Spanish can apply at www.ufcnetwork.com. Applicable candidates must also be from one of the following Latin American countries -- Argentina, Belize, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela.
The UFC has long discussed expanding into Latin America and teased last year about possibly placing heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez in a fight taking place in Mexico or even coaching a season of The Ultimate Fighter to help launch the promotion in the area. Unfortunately, Velasquez suffered a shoulder injury that pushed him out of action for several months, but the UFC will still move forward with The Ultimate Fighter in Latin America kicking off in spring 2014.
“Latin America has become a huge market for the UFC and we’re excited to take it to the next level with The Ultimate Fighter,” said UFC Senior Vice President of International Development and General Manager of Latin America Jaime Pollack. “With the successful launch of the UFC Network, and the tremendous growth of our fan base, our focus has now moved to finding and developing the top talent in this market. We want to find the next star, the next fighter who will do what Anderson Silva did for Brazil. We want to give the fans a homegrown hero.”
Filming for The Ultimate Fighter Latin America will begin in the spring with coaches set to be announced at a later date.
