UFC Mexico’s stoppage streak stayed alive with a lightning fast submission by Joe Soto over the talented Marco Beltran.

Marco Beltran entered the UFC through The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America, where he was eliminated in the semi-finals by Jose Quinonez. He’s bounced back successfully since the show by going 3-0 in the Octagon. Beltran impressively submitted Reginaldo Vieira in his last outing in July.

Joe Soto is a grappling wizard and a former Bellator champion. His first fight in the Octagon was a short notice title shot against then-champion TJ Dillashaw (24 hours’ notice). After losing in the title fight, then in two more matchups, Soto bounced back with a beautiful submission victory over Chris Beal.

When Soto is not fighting in the cage, he is grappling on the mat. Soto was a finalist at the Eddie Bravo Invitational in a field of some of the best grapplers in the world.

Beltran opened the fight with several strikes then was taken down quickly by Joe Soto. After fighting for position for a short amount of time, Soto got a hold of a leg. Soto cranked a leg lock and got the quick tap from Beltran!

Soto has showcased his incredible grappling skills in his last two fights after lacking the opportunity to do so in his first three fights at the highest-level. Of Soto’s five Octagon appearances, three have been on short notice.

Soto credited his jiu-jitsu coach, Dave Tyrell, several times in his post-fight interview. Even after just 90 seconds of work, Soto was winded and could only give thanks to his coaches. The effect of Mexico City’s altitude has been evident all night.

What could be next for the former title challenger? A top-15 opponent? It will most likely be another short notice contest.
