UFC 205: Conor McGregor Announces He Will Be a Father

UFC featherweight champion and new lightweight champion Conor McGregor announced in his post-fight press conference that he will be a father early next year.
Fans witnessed history as featherweight champion Conor McGregor won the UFC lightweight title after he defeated Eddie Alvarez via TKO in the second round.
McGregor announced after the fight in his post-fight press conference that he will be a father early in 2017.
What is next for the lightweight division and its new champion? Will McGregor take time off from fighting to spend with his family?
McGregor did not give a definitive answer as to what he will do next and how his personal life will affect his future in the sport.
McGregor did not announce which title he will let go nor has the promotion announced if he will keep both titles. Although president Dana White has said he will have to let one of the titles go, McGregor has hinted at keeping both championships prior to last night’s victory.
The lightweight division saw plenty of activity in the last two weeks of action. Tony Ferguson defeated former lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos by unanimous decision in the main event of the Mexico card on November 5.
During the last night’s preliminary card, Khabib Nurmagomedov defeated Michael Johnson via submission with a kimura lock in the third round. Following the fight, Nurmagomedov called out McGregor, referring to him as “chicken.” In addition, Nurmagomedov said he deserves a title shot and even put announcer Joe Rogan on the spot, asking if he agrees that he has earned a title shot.

With Ferguson and Nurmagomedov part of the title picture, is also worth noting that after UFC 202, McGregor said that a possible trilogy with Nate Diaz would have to happen at lightweight. Sure enough, McGregor just became the new lightweight champion, and lightweight is the normal weight class in which Diaz fights in. Although White has said he does not want to see a third bout between the two, many fans do, and we all know there is a ton of money to be made, especially if a title is up for grabs this time.
If McGregor decides to continue fighting and if he wants to move forward with the lightweight championship, Ferguson, Nurmagomedov and Diaz are all earnest opponents for a title match.
Considering McGregor has put the featherweight division on hold for quite some time and he just won a title in another division, the promotion will certainly want him to announce a decision of some sort very soon. From there, we should know who McGregor will fight, or if two of the three top contenders will fight to become the new lightweight champion.
