UFC 205: Chris Weidman vs. Yoel Romero officially booked for New York card

UFC 205 has added a key middleweight fight between Chris Weidman and Yoel Romero.
A middleweight clash between former champion Chris Weidman and standout wrestler Yoel Romero has been made official for UFC 205. MMAJunkie confirmed the earlier reports on Thursday afternoon.
Weidman (13-1), Long Island native, was last seen dropping his middleweight title, and perfect professional record, to Luke Rockhold at UFC 194 last December. Both men were expected to rematch at UFC 199 in June before an injury forced Weidman off the card. As a result, Michael Bisping stepped in on short notice and finished Rockhold with strikes early in the first round, claiming UFC gold in the process.
Prior to losing to Rockhold, the former Hofstra wrestling All-American defended his 185-pound title against former champions Vitor Belfort, Lyoto Machida and the very man he won the belt from, Anderson Silva. He will enter this bout with nine career stoppage victories, including six by way of knockout.
Romero (11-1), an Olympic Silver medalist in freestyle wrestling, has not been since defeating Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza at UFC 194. Following the bout, it was revealed the Cuban had failed his post-fight drug test. As a result, Romero was handed a six-year suspension for a tainted supplement.
Prior to his win over Souza, ‘The Solider of God’ earned back-to-back TKO wins over Machida and Tim Kennedy, earning a post fight bonus for both. To date, five of his seven UFC wins have ended tin (T)KO.
UFC 205 will go down on November 12 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. This historic event will mark the UFC’s first event in the State of New York.
